Lodging:
We visited this area while staying in two different locations, the San Juan Inn, Mexican Hat, UT & the Desert Rose Inn, Bluff, UT (approx. 25 mi. NE of Mexican Hat). Mexican Hat is the closest town.
Meals:
In Mexican Hat River Rat Pizza has really good burgers, etc. The food at the restaurant in the San juan Inn was not a favorite with us. In Bluff the Twin Rocks cafe has good food, including their wonderful Navajo tacos.
Sightseeing:
Lots to see in this area. Drive the Moki Dugway then go to the Valley of the Gods. Both are very close. Monument Valley and Natural Bridges National Monument are an easy drive from here.
Good points:
An unusual sight and one of the world's best examples of an "entrenched meander".
Bad points:
Limited viewing with just a couple of vantage points. No hiking access to the river in this area.
Transportation:
Self driving is the best way to get around this area.
Comments:
You will find this park approx. 4 miles off UT 261, near the small town of Mexican Hat. This unusual sight is the 1,000' chasm in the Pennsylvania Hermosa Formation carved by the silty San Juan River.
